A 45-year-old Belleview man was jailed after he allegedly stole nearly $10,000 in energy from Duke Energy over a six-year period.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies last week arrested Jason Edward Currier and charged him with grand theft of utility services and petit theft. MCSO deputies and fraud investigators with Duke Energy determined that Currier stole an electric meter and plugged it into his meter box at his residence. Duke Energy officials say that Currier has stolen $9,645.23 worth of electricity since 2010. Currier was booked at the Marion County Jail.
