Man kills himself after standoff with law enforcement near Fruitland Park

A man who reportedly battered his wife, died of a self-inflicted gunshot after a standoff Sunday with Lake County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies were called Sunday morning to a location in the area of Sunnyside Drive and Lake Unity Road.

The woman had reportedly escaped and gone to another location. When deputies approached the home, the man yelled at deputies, and pulled a handgun from his waistband.

He has not been identified.
