A man was arrested by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies after exhibiting some bizarre behavior in the Village of Lake Deaton.
Deputies were called shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday to Iveywood Street where a man was reportedly pulling a pressure washer and mumbling to himself.
The man, later identified as 36-year-old John Stewart Hopkins of Summerfield, was sweating profusely, was disoriented and repeating, “Where is the water, I need water,” according to an arrest report from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were concerned about homeowners who were nearby, observing this encounter.
Hopkins would not comply with commands from deputies, continued mumbling and would not answer any questions. EMS personnel arrived on the scene to attempt to evaluate his medical condition.
Hopkins had to be secured to a stretcher with medical straps and while he was being secured cocaine was discovered.
He was eventually booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of cocaine possession and resisting a law enforcement officer. Bond was set at $3,500.
