Man pronounced dead at scene of accident in Marion County

A 50-year-old Anthony man was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident Wednesday in Marion County.

Arthur B. Smith had been at the wheel of a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup shortly before 5 p.m. on County Road 329 at NE 25th Avenue when the vehicle drifted to the north across the westbound lanes and onto the north shoulder where it collided with a large tree, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver and sole occupant was pronounced deceased on-scene by Marion County Fire Rescue at 4:58 p.m. This investigation is ongoing.
