A man who told a deputy he only drank two craft beers, blew nearly three times the legal limit after he was stopped Friday night for speeding.
Monty Tyler Tschappat, 23, of Wildwood, had been clocked driving nearly 65 miles per hour on State Road Road 44 near Powell Road, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy suspected Tschappat had been drinking and spotted an open bottle of liquor in his vehicle. Tschappat said it did not belong to him. However, he admitted he had been drinking and knew he had been speeding. He also said he consumed only two craft beers.
He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .232 and .216 blood alcohol content.
“You’re really going to ruin my life over two beers?” Tschappat asked the deputy as he was being placed in the back of a patrol car.
He was booked on a charge of driving under the influence at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
