Man turns himself in to law enforcement in fatal hit-and-run in Marion County

A man has turned himself in to law enforcement in the Aug. 20 hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 45-year-old Ocala man.

Kevin Scott James had been walking along U.S. 441 at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 20 when he was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene of the accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 2:45 p.m. Sunday, FHP was notified by the Ocala Police Department that Daniel W. Vavra, 41, of Anthony had turned himself in. He told police he thought he had hit a deer.

He was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and booked at the Marion County Jail.
