Margaret C. Gates, 89, died peacefully on August 17th at her home at The Serenades in the Villages. She was born on 10/4/1927 in the Canal Zone, Panama. Peggy graduated from the University of Maryland in 1949 where she was active in the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was a worldwide traveler and conveyed a love for mankind to all around her. As a mother, mentor and companion in life, Peggy was the bedrock of stability and enthusiasm for her family. The joy and happiness of her loved ones was what sustained her. Peggy survived Alzheimer’s disease with dignity, determination and very little self-pity. She is survived by her husband, Joseph F. Gates, her children: Barbara Coleman (John), Edward Beidleman, Marjorie Beidleman, Martin Beidleman, stepchildren Elizabeth Gates (Craig), Sherry McCargar (James) and Robert Gates, 4 grandsons and a great-granddaughter. The visitation will be at 10 and funeral service at 11 on Monday, August 21st at Beyers Funeral Home, Lady Lake, Florida with burial following at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
