Margarita ‘Mimi’ Romero Galdo, 84, of the Village of Glenbrook, passed away on Sunday November 27, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her children Querido ‘Tito’ Galdo and wife Molly, Maria Elena Galdo, Gabriel Galdo and wife Debbie, and Joe Galdo and wife Nancy; grandchildren Joe Galdo and wife Paula, Julia Galdo, Michael Galdo and wife Anne, Adriana Galdo Adams and husband Steven, and Gigi Galdo; great-grandchildren Nola, Mina and Cade Adams, Gabriel and Elise Galdo, and Nina Galdo; and devoted nieces and nephews who would take up this entire page if listed.
Margarita was born on April 24, 1932 in Corozal, Belize, the youngest of 13 children. She spent a happy childhood in this small Caribbean town surrounded by her extended family. She came to the US in 1955, graduated high school and began her career as an executive assistant. She and her many cousins enjoyed weekend trips to 1950s Havana, dining and dancing at Miami’s stellar supper clubs, and spending time with each other and friends. She became an airline purchasing agent and lived the fun single life until she met her greatest love, José ‘Pepe’ Galdo, and they married in 1971. José was a widower with five children, who Margarita took in as her own. She and Pepe had a wonderful life together, playing golf, traveling, and being involved with their church. They managed José’s freight forwarding business until they retired in 1999 and moved to the Villages. Margarita had a great time in this new chapter of their lives together and she made numerous good friends, who called her the mayor because she never failed to greet everyone with a bright smile and warm hello. We will never forget her strong spirit, her unflagging generosity and deep capacity for love. We love you and will miss you so much Mimi!
A memorial service for Margarita will be held on Friday December 2, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel, Lady Lake, FL 32159. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation https://web.cshospice.org/foundation/giving.
