Marilyn Fennell, of The Villages, FL, lost her six year battle with malignant neoplasm of connective and soft tissue of the thorax which is a very rare cancer that caused her death on September 14, 2017 at the Cornerstone Hospice House, The Villages, FL. Born October 19, 1936 in Butler, PA., she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Hawkins Black and the late Howard M. Black.

She was raised in Youngstown, Ohio and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1954 where she met her husband Walter C. Fennell. They married June 16, 1956 and have been married for 61 years. Following graduation in 1954 Marilyn worked as a stenographer for General Fireproofing Furniture Company in Youngstown, OH. For 2 years. Marilyn was a stenographer for Equifax Services for 9 years in Youngstown Ohio.

Marilyn and Walter moved to St. Augustine, Fl., in 1990 following retirement and in 2001 moved to the The Villages, FL.

In St. Augustine she began a career in the candy business and managed the St. George Street store of Whetstone Chocolates for 9 years. She was manager of Kilwin’s Chocolates in Spanish Springs for 5 years. During her employment at Kilwin’s Chocolates she had the pleasure of waiting on and serving Joe Biden an ice cream cone. Mr. Biden was then a vice-presidential candidate 2 weeks before the election and becoming our Vice President. Marilyn created Crafts Galore at Tierra DelSol Club House for 3 years. She loved to craft. In later years she was involved with the Villages Craft Shows with her daughter Bette. They loved crocheting dresses, sweater sets and other children clothing and did this for 15 years. Marilyn was also a member of Angel Snugs crocheting hats for children with cancer. Marilyn was also an avid Mahjongg player with her friends of many years.

Marilyn and her husband were blessed with 3 children. Daughter Bette Lynn Stanislaw of Hudson Fl., Gregory C. Fennell who passed away in 1990, and Scott H. Fennell of Orlando, Fl. She left 5 grandchildren, Gregory James Fennell, Suzanne Spradlen, Robert Clark Fennell, Rebecca Stanislaw and Scott H. Fennell II. Great-Grandchildren Jonathan Fennell, Savanna Spradlen, Hanna Spradlen and Connor Robert Babb. She left 2 sisters, Deanna Lambert of Youngstown, Ohio and Donna Rushton of Cumming, Georgia.
A Memorial services will be held Monday Sept 25th with visitation at 2 p.m. and services at 3 p.m. at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel, Lady Lake, FL.

Interment will be in Youngstown, Ohio at the Lake Park Cemetery at a later date following a graveside service. Marilyn will be laid to rest near her son Gregory and her parents.

In lieu of flowers she requested gifts be made to the Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162 or Angel Snugs, Jennifer Smith, 301 Magana Place, The Villages, Fl 32159.
