Marion A. Raines, 88, of Lady Lake, FL, passed into the Arms of the Lord on October 14, 2016 at The Villages Hospital after a short illness. She was born on May 2, 1928 to Maynard and Nellie Mansfield Wellman and raised by her stepmother, Sarah Ferguson Wellman, the only mother she had ever known. Marion grew up in Rome, NY, was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and member of Calvary Methodist Church. On May 7, 1962 in Las Vegas, NV she married Earl Raines. During her career she was employed at both Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY and Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, NV as a procurement clerk. After retirement, Marion and Earl moved to Lady Lake, FL to be closer to her sister Eileen and her husband. Marion is survived by her sister Eileen (Kenneth) McHale of Summerfield, FL; brothers, Maynard (Judy) Wellman and Ronald Wellman of Ann Arbor, MI and Bruce (Pam) Wellman of Rome, NY and The Villages, FL. She also leaves a step-daughter, Cordellia (“Korkie”) Urbanik and her family of Rome, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl and by her sister, Margaret Roberts Casey. She also leaves special friends, Peg, Sis, Gert and Ernie. Growing up, Marion enjoyed good times camping with her family at Sandy Pond, the St. Lawrence River and Chaumont, NY. During their retirement, Marion and Earl had many exciting adventures traveling in their motor home. Marion was a brilliant women with an amazing memory. She was an avid reader, scrabble and card player. She loved family gatherings and “doing lunch”! A big thank you to Carol and the staff at Summerfield Suites who took such good care of Marion during these last four years. A special thank you to Mary Ann Adkison, who started as a volunteer and soon became a cherished friend.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Hwy 27/441, Lady Lake, FL 32159.
Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 1 p.m. where Marion will be laid to rest beside the “love of her life” Earl.
