Marion County Fire Rescue battles early-morning apartment blaze

Firefighters with Marion County Fire Rescue battled an apartment blaze early Friday morning in Belleview.

At 2:29 a.m., MCFR units were dispatched to Woodside Apartments, 6745 SE 107th St., Belleview for reports of a residential structure fire. The caller reported smoke and flames were visible coming from the middle apartment of the structure.

Firefighters found flames venting through the roof of the center apartment, and immediately began evacuation of the adjacent apartments.

Firefighters from MCFR Belleview Station #18, Summerfield Station #30 and The Villages Station #10 arrived on scene and began an interior attack on the fire. Firefighters made entry into the structure and worked quickly to contain the fire to the center apartment.

Crews completed primary and secondary searches of the apartments, all occupants had self-evacuated. Firefighters were able to place salvage covers to save the resident’s valuables from certain ruin. Five residents were displaced by this fire and were assisted on scene by MCFR Chaplain Joe LaCognata and Fire Rescue Support, Inc.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.
