Marion County Fire Rescue comes to aid of horse stuck in water

Marion County Fire Rescue came to the aid of a horse stuck in water Saturday morning near Nelson’s Fish Camp in Ocklawaha.

Walter the horse was being ridden when he got spooked and started to back down into a levy. The rider was able to jump off of Walter as he started going into the water.

Crews from MCFR Station #6 arrived on scene to find Walter stuck in the water, and in distress. Firefighters called in the MCFR Technical Rescue Team as well as ATVs from MCFR Station #4.

Technicians were able to place a harness on the horse and pull him from the water.  Walter suffered minor cuts and scrapes but was otherwise in good shape. His rider was evaluated on scene by paramedics, and was not injured.
