The Marion County Board of County Commissioners is coordinating pickup of hurricane-related yard debris from residents living on any road in the unincorporated areas of Marion County (except for forestry roads). Unincorporated areas include portions of the county not located within a city or town.
Residents should place their hurricane-related yard debris on the side of the road for future pickup, and follow these requirements:
• Ensure the hurricane debris is in the right of way and not in the road, near utility poles, signage, or other structures which could impede pickup.
• Don’t bag the debris or put it in containers.
• Keep hurricane debris separate from all other items, such as household trash or appliances. Dispose of these as you would normally (e.g., bring to a recycling center or use a private franchise hauler).
• Don’t place hurricane-related construction debris (e.g., carpet, roof shingles, etc.) on the roadside. Call Solid Waste (352-671-8465) for information on this type of waste.
The county’s certified contractor will conduct two passes through the county, prioritizing pickup by hardest-hit areas. The first pass began this week and will take about 45 days to complete. The second pass will be the final opportunity for hurricane debris pickup, and will be announced following the completion of the first pass.
Hurricane debris drop-off
Residents not wanting to wait for pickup may bring the hurricane debris to one of these four locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. There is no fee and no limit to the amount of debris accepted.
