Marion County sheriff’s deputy suffers minor injuries in collision

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries in a crash with another vehicle Friday afternoon.

Jessica K. Campbell, 24, of Beverly Hills had been traveling northbound on County Road 225A approaching the intersection of U.S. Hwy.  27. Deputy Timothy W. Ogletree of Ocala in a marked Marion County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was traveling southeast on U.S. Hwy. 27 in the left lane approaching the intersection of County Road 225A, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The patrol car was traveling with its emergency lights and siren activated and was responding to an emergency call for service. The traffic signal was green for Campbell’s vehicle and was red for the patrol car. As Campbell’s vehicle approached the intersection it slowed down and then accelerated into the intersection after surrounding traffic appeared to yield the right of way to the squad car. She of failed to observe the patrol car approaching and continued into the intersection in a northerly direction without slowing down. The front of Campbell’s vehicle collided with the left side of the patrol car.

Both Campbell and Ogletree were transported to Munroe Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injures.

Campell was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
