A Marion County woman is on a ventilator in an intensive care unit after she was beaten with an axe Friday in Silver Springs.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 500 block of NE 129th Terrace in Silver Springs in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies found one victim unconscious and suffering from severe trauma to her head. A second victim, a 23-year old woman, had non-life threatening injuries. Both victims were immediately transported to the hospital. The 23-year-old was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital.
The investigation revealed 40-year old Durant Aundrey Smith came to the home to retrieve some of his personal items when he began attacking the victims with an axe and a block of wood and fled before law enforcement’s arrival. K-9 Deputy Branden Donahue and his partner, K-9 Tipster, were able to locate Smith hiding in a vehicle that was parked on NE 118th Avenue Road in Silver Springs. He was taken into custody.
Smith was transported to the Marion County Jail and is being charged with attempted murder and violation of a domestic violence injunction. He is being held without bond.
