Mary Bernadette ‘Berni’ Mikol

Mary Bernadette “Berni” Mikol, age 80, of The Villages, FL, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016. She was born in Chicago, IL on March 19, 1936. She was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL where she earned a degree in Education. She taught Primary Education in Mount Prospect, IL. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority at Northwestern. Mary moved to The Villages, FL form West Lake, OH in 1999. She was a member of St Timothy Catholic Community, The Villages, FL. Mary enjoyed water aerobics, Bridge, Mahjong, reading, gardening, cooking, plays, movies and easy listening music. She was proud to be active with AA having enjoyed over 30 years of sobriety and the opportunity to counsel others.

She is survived by her son Mark C. Mikol and his wife Debra of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Kristen Hachmeister and her husband Steve of Tarpon Springs, FL; sister in law Harriette Chadwick of Skokie, IL; and 6 grandchildren Katarina, Ryan, Courtney, Joshua, Brianna and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Erwin Mikol.

A visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL 32159 on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 3 – 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, The Villages, FL 32159 on Friday, May 13, 2016, 8:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, 1515 NE 3rd Street, Ocala, FL 34470. A reception will follow the burial and will be held at the Hiers-Baxley Reception facility, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL 32159.
