A week after being rescued from an abusive situation at a home in Lady Lake, a dog is beginning to rebound and has already put on nearly nine pounds.

Maui is currently being cared for by Denise Williams of Lady Lake Animal Control. The dog’s owner was arrested last week on a charge of animal cruelty. You can read about his arrest HERE

At the time Maui was seized, a veterinarian said the dog would have died within a matter of days if it had remained chained up.

Maui will still require thousands of dollars in surgery.

When Jean Olivier-White of Just Dandy Pet Parlor in The Villages read about Maui in Villages-News.com, she knew she had to do something.

More than 14 years ago, she and her husband Kevin got involved in rescuing animals. Six months ago the New York natives had an opportunity to purchase the Just Dandy Pet Parlor located next to Winn-Dixie in the La Plaza Grande shopping center in Spanish Springs. One of their goals when they bought the place was to give back to the community. They have, at no cost to the Town of Lady Lake, provided grooming for dogs and cats in the custody of the Lady Lake Animal Control prior to adoption events.

She is sponsoring a raffle of a pet carriage and assorted pet supplies. Anyone wishing to buy a raffle ticket or make a donation can contact her at the Just Dandy Pet Parlor or call her at 352-259-7000.

Maui will eventually be put up for adoption, according to Animal Control.

If you can donate to help Maui, you can also call Williams at 751-1530.
