Michael J. ‘Joe’ O’Brien,

Michael J. ‘Joe’ O’Brien, 85, of The Villages, FL, died peacefully on August 31, 2017 in The Villages, Florida with his loving wife of 59 years, Mary, by his side.

Born in the Bronx, he served in the U.S. Navy and had a 30 year career at Ogilvy & Mather in New York City.

Joe loved the New York Giants, daily mass at St. Timothy’s, Irish music, a good joke, a cold beer and the New York Post.

Adored husband, loved father and marvelous PopPop – Joe’s family was everything to him.

Called Mike by some and Joe by most, he was loved by all who knew him.
A charming gentle and handsome Irishman with a huge heart, a quick wit and a twinkle in his eyes, his life will have a lasting affect on all of us. Rest in Peace.

He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Farley), his five children; Mary Ellen (John) McCooey-NYC, Michael J. (Cathy) O’Brien -Durham, NH, John J. (Debbie) O’Brien -Charlotte, NC, Colleen (Tom) Corcoran- Locust Valley, NY and Kevin A. (Christine) O’Brien- Newton, NC and 12 adoring grandchildren:Jay, Will (and Rachel), Christopher, Meghan, Matthew, Skakel, Patrick, Colette, Andrew, Ashleen, Aidan and Brody and his sister Margaret Payne, Rockaway, NY.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday Sept 23, 2017 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Lady Lake, Florida. Interment at Long Island National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
