Michael John Madaio, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1917, the son of Biago and Louise Madaio. He was a first generation Italian-American veteran of WWII serving as Sargent in the U.S. Army. He was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan who was distraught when they moved to L.A. His career of many years was as a representative of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P Stores) in the New York and New Jersey area. Michael was a devoted husband father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Michael’s friends and colleagues praised his prose, friendship and loyalty. He loved to play golf and has a hole in one to his credit.
Michael is survived by his wife Anne Marie, to whom he was married for almost 70 years, daughters Joanne Gallivan, wife of Mark Gallivan; Janet Wagner, wife of Roy Wagner; son Michael P Madaio, husband of Pamela Butt Madaio; 5 grandchildren: Michael John II, Megan, Melissa, Ryan and Lauren, and two great grandchildren, Michael John III and Caroline.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Veterans Administration.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church in The Villages on Tuesday morning May 16th at 8:30 a.m. His final resting place will be Florida National Cemetery. He will be truly missed, along with his sense of humor and his dedication to and love of family.
