Mike Tucker comes in second in running for Pinellas Suncoast fire chief

Former Villages Public Safety Chief Mike Tucker came in second this past week in the running for fire chief of the Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District.

Commissioners with the fire district had about 50 applicants, which a search committee narrowed down to five. From that pool, two applicants were selected, Salvatore D’Angelo of the North Naples Fire Control and Rescue District and Tucker. Both were interviewed Aug. 19.

Tucker, who resigned from The Villages Public Safety Department earlier this year, is currently the safety program manager for the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards in Ocala.

D’Angelo is expected to start work Oct. 1.
