Misguided golf cart driver turns from Morse Gate out onto CR466

Villager Robert Hempel could hardly believe his eyes Saturday when he saw a couple in a golf cart exit through the Morse Gate and make a right hand turn onto County Road 466.

“Motorists were warning them to stop,” said Hempel, who is well known in The Villages as he and his wife Kathy have played a very active role in Villages Honor Flight.

“They continued, turning right onto 466 and proceeding west in the right lane. Very scary,” Hempel said.

He called the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office to report the errant golf cart.
