Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter has been chosen as a recipient of the Mount Dora Community Trust grant process. The grant will serve to support two preservation and repair projects for homeowners in the Northeast Mount Dora community. Habitat of Lake-Sumter is currently finalizing the selection of the families for the two projects in partnership with the Mount Dora Community Trust, with the first project slated to start just after the New Year, and the second project to follow closely behind.
Habitat of Lake-Sumter’s Preservation & Repair program works to preserve the existing affordable housing stock in Lake and Sumter Counties – projects improve accessibility and safety of the homes through exterior repairs such as debris removal and landscaping, ramp or stair replacement, painting, and soffit and siding repairs to name a few.
Although it is not a program requirement, families served through the program are often elderly or disabled in need of a bit of help. Projects vary in the amount of work needed, but typically last between 1-3 days to complete. Habitat welcomes calls from community members interested in volunteering for the preservation and repair program. Those interested can connect with Carlos, Habitat’s Director of Volunteer Services, at 352-483-0434 Ext 119.
