Norton ‘Norm’ Braxton

Norton “Norm” Braxton, 89, passed away at his home in The Villages on Friday, March 20, 2015. Norton was born in Gardenville, FL. He served in the US Army in the European theater during WWII and then as the Economics/ Labor Relations Officer of the Nagano Military Government Team, Japan 1946-1948. His girlfriend Bette from Washington, DC joined him in Nagano, where they married in July of 1947. He returned to the States in 1948 where he completed his BS at The University of Maryland. He remained active in the Army Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel where his last assignment was Commanding Officer of the 479th Military Intelligence Detachment in Orlando, FL. Over the years, he and his family lived in Dunedin, FL, Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX, Orlando, FL and Leesburg, FL. Following his active Army service, his careers included NW Transportation Manager with Minute Maid Corporation, Allstate Insurance, Executive Director of Orange County Community Action Agency in Orlando and finally New South Realty, Inc. which he formed and operated with his wife until they retired to Winter Haven and then to The Villages, FL. Norton is survived by his wife Bette of 67 years, his three sons Carter Braxton, Atlanta, GA, John Braxton, Auburndale, FL, Scott Braxton and Brenda, Dearborn, MI, Niece Rose Ann Sharp, San Diego, CA, Nephew Benjamin Alderson, St Petersburg, FL and Niece Cindy Jackson, Rocklin, CA. A funeral service will be held at St. George Episcopal Church, 1250 Paige Place Lady Lake, FL 32159, Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. Burial to take place at 3 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2015 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, FL.
