A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Wednesday to a residence located at SW 35th Terrace Rd. in reference to a battery, according to an arrest report. The deputy made contact with the victim, who stated that he and his roommate, 28-year-old Andre Eugene Pearson, were in a verbal argument about clothing when Pearson struck him in the lip with a closed fist, the report stated. The victim advised he pushed Pearson away from himself to protect himself, ran out of the residence and asked his neighbor to call 911. He stated that his other roommate witnessed the battery take place.

The deputy made contact with the witness, who gave the same account as the victim. The witness also told the deputy that Pearson was still in the residence.

The deputy made contact with Pearson, who stated that he punched the victim in the face in self-defense, causing the victim’s lip to bleed, according to the report.

Pearson was placed under arrest on a charge of simple battery and was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
