Ocala woman killed in accident near entrance to drive-in theater in Marion County

A 23-year-old Ocala woman died as the result of a collision Saturday afternoon near the entrance to a drive-in theater in Marion County.

The crash occurred at 3:56 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 441, north of SE 52 Street, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Rochelle Gainey, 23, of Ocala, had been southbound in the inside lane of U.S. 441 and was approaching a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by 72-year-old “K” Sells of Anthony which had been stopped in the driveway of the drive-in theater. Sells failed to see Gainey’s approaching vehicle and drove into her path. Gainey applied her brakes but failed to stop in time and the vehicles collided.

Gainey was pronounced dead on arrival at Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Sells suffered serious injuries and was also transported to ORMC.

Charges are pending.
