A Dayton, Ohio man relocating to Florida was arrested after allegedly shooting out the tire of a moving truck.

Robert Hugh Sherer, 70, is facing charges of improperly firing a weapon, improperly exhibiting a firearm and criminal mischief following his arrest Tuesday night at a Circle K gas station in Lake Panasoffkee.

An individual he had met at church had been driving the Penske moving truck south on Interstate 75 with Sherer’s wife riding in the truck, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Sherer was following on his motorcycle and his son and daughter-in-law were following in another vehicle.

Sherer was angered when the driver of the truck sped up and Sherer could not keep up on the motorcycle, the arrest report indicated. Sherer called his wife and told them to meet him at the Circle K. An argument broke out over the night’s arrangements and Sherer allegedly shot out a tire of the Penske truck. A Circle K clerk called 911.

When a deputy arrived, Sherer approached the deputy with his hands in the air.

After Sherer was arrested, the deputy confiscated Sherer’s Colt 1911, and he explained to Sherer the process for getting it back.

“Ya, last time it took seven years to get it back,” Sherer told the deputy.

He was booked on $13,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
