Orange Blossom Gardens Lions Club has exciting projects on horizon

The Orange Blossom Gardens Lions Club recently installed new officers for 2017-18. Although some new folks are becoming officers, many are continuing their roles. John Buswell as president and Judy Kohn as first vice president will be starting a second term.

“It is not unusual for Lions Club officers to hold their positions for two or three years,” said Buswell who describes his leadership style as “leading with laughter.”

Secretary Doris Turlo, also a continuing officer, conducted the installation of officers, describing each officer’s position as a color ending with a multi-colored scarf symbolizing how they all work together surrounding the room. As she said, those that know her as “Rainbow,” her clown name, would understand why she picked the color presentation.

The OBG Lions Club has some big plans for this upcoming year. Internationally, the Lions Club has selected diabetes as their signature cause and the OBG club will be doing some related fundraisers.

Buswell said their golf tournament on March 17, 2018 will be bigger and better than ever.

Currently with their partners, the American Legion, they are preparing for the July 18 soft opening of the renovated Lady Lake Driving Range on Rolling Acres Road.

There will be refreshments and prizes at the opening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The OBG Lions Club welcomes new members and visitors to their meetings at the Paradise Recreation Center on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 9 a.m. The OBG Lions Club has the distinction of being the oldest club in the Villages; Harold Schwartz, Villages founder, started the club. They recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. If you would like more information about the club, call 352-750-0837.
