Overseeding begins in The Villages Oct. 1

During the fall months the golf division completes a process known as over-seeding.

Bermuda grass thrives during the spring and summer months when Florida experiences high temperatures; however, it goes dormant in the winter months when the temperatures turn cooler. To improve course conditions and the overall appearance, a variety of winter grass seed is spread in October and early November which will flourish through the cooler months making the courses greener and more enjoyable!

In The Villages, the over-seeding process lasts about 6 weeks. During this time, the 27 hole Country Clubs will close on a rolling basis for 3 days to over-seed the tees and greens and 2 days for the fairways. The 18 hole Country Clubs (Orange Blossom and Tierra Del Sol) will close for 5 days to over-seed the tees, greens and fairways. The Executive Courses will close for 3 days to complete the process.

When these courses open, there will be watering windows twice a day for 8 days to assist with the germination of the winter seed. During this time, golf cars (including those with reasonable accommodations) will be restricted to the cart paths and roughs only.

The course closures are alternated and will be posted at www.GolfTheVillages.com.
