Overuse of water south of County Road 466

To the Editor:

We live in a patio villa in the Village of Fernandina. It’s just my husband and I here and we are very careful about our water usage. We are also sure there are no water leaks, and yet we receive letters regularly saying that we are using much more water than the average patio villa. I have two comments about that:

1. If patio villa usage is measured as a year-round average, there are many of this type of home that remain empty several months a year. Patio villas are popular with snowbirds and renters.

2. If The Villages had not chosen to use zoysia grass, we would not have to water so much. This grass is terrible for areas trying to conserve water. Bad choice by the developers to switch to zoysia.
