A 34-year-old Oxford man has been arrested by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies on a felony charge of grand theft.

Michael Alan Shepherd Jr. is accused of taking $44 cash and a company check in the amount of $250 between Oct. 3 and 6 from a home in Oxford.

When an investigating deputy asked Shepherd about the check, Shepherd told the deputy he had been robbed of the check in Marion County, but had not reported the robbery because he “didn’t want anybody to go to jail,” according to the arrest report.

He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $2,000.
