Two men were arrested after shots were fired in an apartment at the Oakleaf Apartment Complex on County Road 466 in Lady Lake.

Lady Lake police were called to the complex in the early morning hours Monday where they were met by tenants in Building 20. The tenants told police that they had heard shots fired from Apartment 20205 and had heard two men arguing.

When police knocked on the apartment door, the men would not answer. A woman who also lives in the apartment arrived home and gave officers permission to kick in the door, according to arrest reports.

Inside the apartment officers found 29-year-old Paul Robert Hopkins and 29-year-old Timothy Brian Garner.

Both men were arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, discharge of a firearm in residential property and use of a firearm under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Hopkins was also charged with being a felon unlawfully in possession of a weapon.

At the scene, officers recovered a 9 mm Ruger handgun, seven spent shell casings as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

They also found six bullet holes in the ceiling of the apartment.

Bond for Hopkins was set at $14,000.

Bond for Garner was set at $4,000.
