Paul Dennis Deeley

Paul Dennis Deeley, 85, Leesburg, FL, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 25, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Paul and Lillian Deeley. Paul graduated from Michigan College of Mining & Technology, Houghton, MI, in 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force, School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph AFB 1950-1953. Marrying his high school sweetheart, Florence Erringer in 1951, and have five children, Sallie Collins, Kathleen Deeley, Betsy Reid, William Deeley and Susan Wells. Grandchildren are Alexander Deeley, Andrew Collins, Madeline Wells, Meghan Deeley, Cameron Reid and Elizabeth Deeley. Brother Larry predeceased Paul and he is survived by sister Louise Rigby, brother Fredric Deeley, and many nieces and nephews. As a licensed Professional Engineer, Paul served with Electrometallurgical Corp., UCC, Shieldalloy Corp., Metallurg Inc. and was owner of Deeley and Associates, consulting nationally and internationally. As author of many technical books, patents and papers he organized and chaired many domestic and international technical meetings. Life memberships with AIST, ASM, AFS, ASTM were earned by chairing many committees of each technical organization. Paul was a member of Copper Country Lodge 35, F&AM, Houghton, MI for 50+ years. Paul loved fishing and sharing his passion for being out on the water. For several years he led a group of fathers and sons on an annual fishing trip to experience the outdoors and reconnect with each other. Many recall and credit Paul with memories of the trips they will never forget. Paul served on church vestrys of Episcopal churches in Pittsburgh, PA, LaGrange, IL and Ocean City, NJ. He was a member and an officer of Leesburg Civitan Club for 25 years. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Civitan International Research Foundation, UAB, Birmingham, AL or St. James’ Memorial Fund, Leesburg, FL.
