Pedestrian critically injured when struck by pickup near Baylee Plaza

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup and critically injured Tuesday night on U.S. 441 near Baylee Plaza in Summerfield.

Estuardo Alexander Higuer, 31, of Oakland Park, was initially transported to The Villages Regional Hospital but later airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses said he had walked directly into the path of a northbound 2004 Ford F-150 driven by 33-year-old Dawn Smoker of Summerfield, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. She escaped injury.
