People from Pittsburgh are very friendly

Last night The Blonde in the house and I attended the Three Rivers Club meeting.  It is an excellent club particularly since it deals with Pittsburgh.  People from Pittsburgh are very friendly.  If you want proof sometime just fly in and out of Pittsburgh, which is a great thing to do for any reason.  Then compare the people who screen you through the lines to the planes with those in other cities – even Orlando.  The best thing about them is that they are friendly – which is quite an amazing anomaly.  I mean that is not supposed to happen at airports anymore.

However, as usual this article is not just about how great people from Pittsburgh are. Rather I am looking at the fact that the club has “Three” in its title.  Obviously, there is a reason for this since Pittsburgh does have two rivers coming together to form a third.  My point is that many clubs and other institutions have numbers in them.  Heck, there is even a Fifth National Third Bank (or something like that).  The point that I am making is that poor old number one never gets mentioned in titles.  It is rumored to be at the head of the line, but it never seems to make it all the way.

You can look at the list of clubs in The Villages and you will not find “one” in any of the titles.  There is never a One Mississippi Club or other of like ilk to be discovered!  Even Husbands’ United (a secret society), which is not listed, is plural.

It is easily noted that even in our somewhat contentious election debates neither candidate mentions the discrimination which “one” faces daily.  It is almost as if they didn’t care.  They need to remember that there are millions of singles who will be voting.  Of course with this election there may be millions of singles who will not be voting.  However, that begs the question – “One discrimination must cease”!

Now that that is off my chest, it is time to go on to something else.  I guess I could discuss Halloween which is coming up.  Halloween is going to have a big problem this year.  It is supposed to be the scariest day of the year.  It may have to surrender this year to November 8 – Election Day!  Nevertheless, the folks in The Villages are resolute and not easily discouraged or affected by such changes in the normal course of events. We will personally have attended two Halloween parties by the time the holiday itself arrives. Everyone will have a delightful time and I am certain that others in our community will have equally delightful times.  I know that the people back in Pittsburgh and its suburbs will.

At the Three Rivers Club meeting that I mentioned above, we took some friends who lived most of their lives in Minnesota (we were there for six plus years ourselves).  Minnesota is also a very friendly area, but even our friends felt that Pittsburghers’ are friendly.  So my suggestion is that we all be friends.

Even on November 8!
