Nurse shot in struggle at West Marion Community Hospital

A shooter was detained at West Marion Community Hospital after wounding a nurse Saturday.

The shooter had reportedly been taken to the hospital by a trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. A struggle ensued between the two, a shot was fired and a nurse in the room was wounded in the leg.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. at the hospital at 4600 Southwest 46th Court.

“We responded to reports of an active shooter but that turned out to be incorrect,” said Ashley Lopez, a spokeswoman for Ocala Fire Rescue.  “It all happened and ended very quickly.”

The wounded nurse was being treated at the hospital and indications were that the injury was not life-threatening.
