Phyllis Zinsky passed away on February 28, 2015 at the age of 82 after a short battle with cancer. Phyllis was born as the middle child to Walter and Mary (O’Brien) McNamara on January 3, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. She married Fred Zinsky on July 26, 1956 and raised a family in Palatine, Illinois. Phyllis and Fred retired to The Villages in 1995. Phyllis was an avid reader, competitive Scrabble player, she loved to golf, play cards and shoot billiards. She enjoyed vacationing with her children and grandchildren. Phyllis relished cruising with her friends. Phyllis was a beloved petsitter to many. Phyllis participated in the senior games and won multiple medals. She volunteered her time with the “shoeboxers” and at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.Phyllis is survived by her three children, Tim (Lan Tran) Zinsky of Houston, Texas, Patti (Troy) Westermeyer of Huntley, Illinois and Mike (Lara) Zinsky of Genoa City, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren, Zachary Zinsky, Drew and Emily Westermeyer, Sydney and Shelby Zinsky ; and one sister, Margaret (Robert) Thoresen of Strasburg, Virginia. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Dorothy in 1976 and her husband Fred in 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church on Monday, March 23 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a committal service at Florida National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Special thanks to New Century Hospice Care in Houston, Texas for the wonderful, caring and patient nurses and staff that assisted with the care of Phyllis over the past three months.
