Pit bull puppy removed from scene of suspicious fire

A pit bull puppy was removed from the scene of a suspicious fire earlier this month in Lady Lake.

Lake County Fire Rescue and Lady Lake police responded at to the blaze at 10:55 p.m. July 20 to the 900 block of Hibiscus Street.

A neighbor spotted the blaze and called 911. Firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to remove the burning items.

Police found four unused needles, spoons commonly used for heroin, and 6.96 grams of marijuana, according to an incident report.

A pit bull puppy was found locked in a closet. The puppy was turned over to the town’s animal control officer.   

Firefighters determined that a candle may have fallen over on a dresser in a bedroom.

The property is used as a rental. Police made contact with the property owner.
