Police ID bank robbery suspect who threatened staffers at Ocala Regional Medical Center

A bank robbery suspect who threatened hospital staff and was shot and wounded by an Ocala police officer, has been identified.

Jonathan Michael Rollins, 40, is suspected of attempting to rob the Bank of America branch on State Road 40. He was injured when Ocala police attempted to take him into custody and Rollins was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

While medical personnel were trying to X-ray Rollins on Thursday, he attacked a female hospital staff member and grabbed a pair of scissors from a desk in the exam room.  The suspect failed to comply with the an Ocala Police Department officer’s verbal commands and threatened the medical staff and the officer with the scissors. The officer then shot Rollins. He has remained a patient at ORMC.
