The Project Wide Advisory Committee has agreed to take action on line-of-sight issues that residents of the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter say have created a dangerous situation at the entrance to their neighborhood.
Those residents have indicated that there is plenty of hostility aimed at them when they try to drive their cars out through the gate. A golf cart path intersects with the entrance/exit to Buena Vista Boulevard.
“Vehicular traffic actually has the right-of-way,” noted Richard Busche of Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc.
He said golf cart drivers have been treating that intersection like “a rolling stop” as they traverse the speed bumps.
PWAC agreed to follow these recommendations from the engineering firm:
• Modify the “Resident Entry” sign to allow visibility for westbound golf carts and southbound exiting vehicles to see each other. Remove/replant any landscaping in this sight line.
• Modify the entering gate activation push button housing to allow visibility for southbound entering vehicles to see eastbound traveling golf carts.
• Adjust the timing on the southbound existing gate arm to require a single exiting vehicle to make a full stop before the gate opens. Currently, a car approaching this gate can continue through the gate arm without stopping if they slow down.
• Modify the median refuge area to improve the two-stage golf cart crossing. Replace and clearly post the stop signs in the median.
PWAC took no action on the pair of speed bumps at that location. The fate of the speed bumps will be determined by the Community Development District 5 Board of Supervisors.
