Ramon Fuertes Sr.

Ramon Fuertes Sr. age 85 passed away September 13, 2015 in Leesburg, Florida. Ramon was born in Culebra, Puerto Rico and moved to the Leesburg area in 2001 from St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. He had a long career as a sports promoter for the Department of Housing, Parks, and Recreation – U. S. Virgin Islands and retired after 22 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was also an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Leesburg for many years. Mr. Fuertes was well known for his dedication to the youth of the U. S. Virgin Islands, and he forever attempted to be a positive influence and mentor to those he encountered. He will be remembered as an excellent athlete and specifically excelled at baseball and basketball. He was also an excellent dancer and loved spending time in his garden. He is survived by his wife of 51 years – Aida; Son- Ramone Fuertes, Jr. – Leesburg; 5 Daughters – Vivian Vega – Maryland; Yvonne Perez – Orlando; Yvette Milo – New York; and Wanda Tucker – West Palm, Florida; Brother – Miguel Fuertes – St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands; Sister Lolita Fuertes – Leesburg; 11 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday, September 21, 2015 at Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Leesburg, Florida. Interment immediately followed with military honors at Florida National Cemetery, Webster, Florida.
