A resident of the Village of Bonita is calling on Community Development District 7 supervisors to powerwash major thoroughfares in the district.
Larry Lentz said the roadways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters are “blackened with soot and dirt.” Lentz, who addressed supervisors Thursday morning in their monthly meeting, said there is also mold growing in some areas.
He said CDD 7 is no match for the new areas of The Villages which are gleaming.
He said he had contacted The Villages and had arrived at an estimate of $37,000 to completely powerwash the seven main streets in CDD 7. He suggested the work could be done over a period of three years so the $37,000 cost isn’t absorbed in a single year.
Supervisors weren’t eager to jump on board with the idea.
“Just to hear $37,000 raises the eyebrows,” said Supervisor Jerry Vicenti.
Supervisors indicated that they are proud of their record of not raising maintenance assessment fees paid by residents.
However, later in the meeting, Supervisor Bill Vondohlen noted that CDD 7 had $198,000 left over from the recently ended fiscal year.
Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management said Sumter County, which owns the roads in CDD 7, already runs a street sweeper over them twice a year.
