Residents are battling rats in the Jasper Villas.
Community Development District 5 supervisors discussed the problem at Friday morning’s meeting.
CDD 5 Chairman Walter Martin read aloud from a letter from a resident of the Jasper Villas describing the situation.
A pest control came out and set up boxes with poison, and there have been concerns about pets getting into the poison.
There are also concerns about residents with bird feeders, which are a source of food for the rats.
“If you’re feeding the birds, you’re feeding the rodents,” said CDD 5 Supervisor Gary Kadow.
The board agreed to have District staff put a notice at the Village of Ashland postal station, which serves the Jasper Villas. The notice will advise residents that bird feeders can attract rats.
