Restaurant abruptly closes in Southern Trace

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery abruptly closed its doors at Southern Trace Plaza after reportedly losing its lease with the Villages Commercial Property division.

The restaurant closed at 2 p.m. Sunday.

On Monday morning, a crew was removing Perkins’ signage from the building on Wedgwood Lane.

Employees at the Perkins location have reportedly been reassigned to Perkins restaurants in Lady Lake, Mount Dora and Leesburg.

Founded in 1958, Perkins operates 400 restaurants in 33 states and five Canadian provinces. The Perkins system includes 134 company-owned and operated restaurants and 266 franchised units. The company also has a baked goods manufacturing division operating under the name Foxtail which manufactures pies, pancake mixes, cookie dough, and muffin batter for in-store bakeries and third-party customers.
