A 27-year-old restaurant server has been arrested on a felony theft charge after allegedly stealing money from the restaurant where he worked.

Kyle Douglas Stevens of Eagles Nest Road in Fruitland Park was arrested by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies Oct. 2 after an investigation into discrepancies in revenue at Beef O’Brady’s at Southern Trace shopping center.

The discrepancies totaling $5,000 occurred from Aug. 31 to Oct. 1.

According to the arrest report, Stevens took cash from customers paying for their meals and kept it. He then punched into the restaurant computer that the customer had paid with a gift card.

Stevens was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $2,000.
