The Villages Regional Hospital now has the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, the newest, leading-edge robotic surgery system.
This week, Dr. Harvey Taub, board certified urologist, performed the hospital’s first two successful minimally-invasive surgeries using the da Vinci Xi system.
On Tuesday morning, Taub performed two successful Laparoscopic Robotic Prostatectomies.
“The da Vinci Robotic System is a clear advancement in minimally-invasive technology, which is now available to The Villages and surrounding communities. There is no need to travel long distances for cutting-edge technology anymore,” Taub said. “The Xi offers greater range of motion and advantages for many types of surgery. Urologists, gynecologists, abdominal and thoracic surgeons alike will find the Xi to be a giant leap forward.”
The system’s advanced robotic computer and optical technologies allow surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions. Benefits to patients may include a faster recovery time, minimal scarring and pain, decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stay and quicker return to daily activities.
“Placing the most current technologies, such as the da Vinci Xi robot in the hands of the incredibly talented and experienced surgeons we have at TVRH, such as Dr. Taub, means we can offer patients the very best combination of skill and technology,” said Don Henderson, president and CEO of Central Florida Health Alliance. “TVRH is proud to add this capability to our ever growing list of services so that patients no longer need to travel out of The Villages for their care.”
