Robert “Bob” Joseph Buckland, age 76, of The Villages, Florida, made his transition on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Promise Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was born March 20, 1938 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Marion (Mosher) and Charles Buckland. He graduated from Lawrence High School and then served four years in the Navy. Bob completed his undergraduate studies from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in engineering. He earned his MBA from Lesley College. His engineering career began at Western Electric and continued at Digital Equipment Corporation until his retirement in 1995. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Kay Buckland and Mark (Sara), Patricia (Rick) DeCorpo, Scott (Vicki), Nancy (Mark) Anglin; and four step-children, Kimberlee (Gordon) Arnold, Kristi Ashton, Kelly Archer, and Sean Laurence; and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by the mother of his four children, Mary Laramie and his sister, Joan (George) Desell and one niece, Karyn Cullen. Bob was a leader in many ways, working as a coach of Little League, Boy Scouts and helping troubled teen-agers. He had a soft spot in his heart for spiritual growth, leading and facilitating ACIM groups designed for finding inner peace. After open heart surgery in 2007, Bob’s golf took a sideline and he studied and taught art. Because he was color blind his medium was charcoal, pen, and pencil for his portrait painting. It was a private joke when some of his art students asked which color they should use for a particular drawing! When not studying art, he was watching his home team, the Boston Red Sox. His life in The Villages was full and rich; we are all sad to not have him part of our community and family. An inspiration to all that knew him, he will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 6, 10:00 a.m., at the United Church of Christ, Rt 101, Oxford, Florida. A light lunch will be served at the Church following the service.
