Robert Michael Fitzgerald

Robert Michael Fitzgerald, 81, of The Villages, FL, passed from this life, Saturday, November 11, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Stanley and Virginia (Donnelly) Fitzgerald.

Robert served his country with distinction in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Silver Star.

Robert was a graduate of Upsala College, East Orange, NJ; received his MBA from New York University, New York and advanced studies at the American College of Financial Services, Bryn Mawr, PA. He initially was a certified public accountant and worked for Haskins & Sells in New York City. He became a certified financial planner (CFP) and then a chartered financial consultant (CHFC).

He moved to Florida in the mid – 1970s and became affiliated with the Gabor Insurance Agency of Tallahassee, FL. Through his diligent efforts, Robert was made an executive vice-president with the agency. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale and then Boca Raton for several years. During that time, he was a financial planner and consultant for many of the colleges and universities in South Florida. Robert never did retire keeping in contact with his clients until recently.

He and his wife Nadine moved to The Villages from Boca Raton in 2007. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and later golf. Robert and Nadine traveled the world extensively and participated in over 35 cruises. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 347 of Lady Lake.

He leaves his beloved wife of 27 years, Nadine Ann (Deresh) and his canine companion Merlot.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wildwood, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorsproject.org); Toys for Tots (toysfortots.org); or a charity of your choice.
