The search for a concession vendor to serve food and drink in the patio area of the new El Santiago Recreation Center will wait until the new center opens.
The new recreation center is being constructed on the site of the former El Santiago Club restaurant. The new recreation center is expected to open in December.
Several emotional meetings were held leading up to the decision to build the new recreation center. Some residents strongly voiced their opinion that they wanted a restaurant at the location.
In order to pacify those desires, the Amenity Authority Committee agreed to look at the idea of setting up a vendor to sell food and drink at the center.
AAC member John Wilcox raised the question Wednesday of when the requests for proposal might be going out.
District Manager Janet Tutt indicated it would wait until completion as vendors would want to be able to see the location from which they would be working.
But that means a vendor might not be at the location until March or April.
Wilcox said he had hoped to see something happening there sooner, even if it meant serving out of Styrofoam coolers.
“People want beer after they golf,” he said.
