Seasonal residents are among the many patients currently at The Villages Regional Hospital.
The 297-bed hospital is full, but not at capacity, according to a spokesman with Central Florida Health.
“January, February and March are traditionally our heaviest time of year,” said Frank Faust, administrative director of marketing at Central Florida Health.
In addition, it’s at this time of year that “various bugs” are going around, he said.
“We have the capacity, as well as the staff, to handle the patients,” he said.
The hospital’s Urgent Care may be a better alternative for those who are ill, but do not necessarily require an Emergency Room visit.
TVRH’s Urgent Care is located on the first floor of the hospital and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
“If it’s more serious, you’re already at the hospital,” Faust said.
He added that TVRH’s sister hospital, Leesburg Regional Medical Center, also currently has a high-patient volume due to the season.
