Second person dies as result of accident on I-75 in Marion County

A second person has died in the wake of a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Marion County.

Pearlie M. Gibbs, 35, of Gainesville died at 11:49 a.m. Sunday at UF Health Shands in Gainesville.

She had been driving a 2005 Kia Sorento in which Jamiya Postell, 10, also of Gainesville, had been a passenger. The 10-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which occurred at 2:41 p.m. at Mile Marker 363, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Another passenger, 18-year-old Jakera Postell also of Gainesville, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to UF Health.

Gibbs’ vehicle had collided with a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Kevin R. Chasteen, 21, of Tampa. He was not injured.

The crash shut down northbound traffic for nearly four hours.
